Your Magenta Monday Magic.
Welcome to March! Spring is almost here and our theme this month is gratitude.
When contemplating this series I wondered, how can I say something different about gratitude? Something you haven’t heard before?
But it wasn’t long before I realized that I was overthinking it. What makes gratitude such a superpower is its SIMPLICITY!
Why is gratitude a superpower?
Because it’s one of the easiest ways to enhance your life.
It can flip a bad mood into a good one in the blink of an eye, stop the speeding train of negativity in its tracks, and manifest joy nonstop.
Take that Batgirl! 🦸
Gratitude, derived from the Latin word ‘gratia’, means gratefulness or thankfulness.
But it does so much more than that!
Gratitude makes us present to what is right in front of us (the kind things we miss when we’re always stuck in our head). With presence, you are available to notice the joy in your life.
Just check out this excerpt from From The Gifts of Imperfection by Brené Brown (which I highly recommend reading, by the way):
“I never talk about gratitude and joy separately, for this reason. In 12 years, I've never interviewed a single person who would describe their lives as joyful, who would describe themselves as joyous, who was not actively practicing gratitude.”
Wow! All that for something as simple as gratitude. Not bad, eh?
So just how do you experience more gratitude in your life and reap the many benefits?
Simple. Be present and notice what is already going on around you. Every. Single. Day. If Brené is on to something, and I know she is, it will lift your spirits and bring you joy.
If you’re in the Thriving Moms Collective group, you may know that we celebrate Magenta Moments on Monday. Life is a collection of Magenta Moments - those small moments that often pass unnoticed.
When you stop to acknowledge those moments - the sun sparkling on the water, your family home watching a movie on the couch together, the sound of the birds singing outside your window - you become present to it, relish it, and take it in.
Simply put, you have joy.
Remember: Presence is the key. You can’t hear the song if you aren’t listening to the radio.
Monday Mindshift
It’s the 1° shift that makes the biggest difference over time.
“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.”
—William Arthur Ward
This whole month we are going to work on our gratitude practice with this short, daily activity that can have a HUGE impact on your life.
Before you start, open up your journal or audio or note in your phone and ask yourself: How much do I practice or experience gratitude each day?
Then, pick one of the following and commit to doing it every day for 30 days.
Gratitude Journal: Each night, list 3 good things that happened that day in a notebook or journal. Read it often.
Gratitude Jar: Decorate a jar or shoe box and fill it with notes of gratitude each day. Take time often to read the notes, especially after a challenging day.
Gratitude Board: Hang up a poster board and add things you are grateful for each day. Express your gratitude any way you want - cut out images from magazines, print pictures off the internet, use Post-its or markers to write or draw… whatever brings you inspiration.
Love,
PS. I’d love to hear what activities you did to connect to your intentions! I invite you to share your thoughts and ideas with us in Thriving Mom’s Collective FB Group!
