Your Magenta Monday Magic.
In the US, this time of year is all about BBQ’s, fireworks, family and friends. 🧨🇺🇸 Wherever you are, and however you’re choosing to celebrate the 4th of July holiday, I hope you’re having fun! 🎉🥳
Speaking of the 4th of July, let’s talk about freedom of choice. When it comes to personal growth, your freedom to choose has a huge impact on your well being by empowering you to have agency in creating your life.
Oftentimes people think about the big choices they make – who to marry, which job to take, where to live – as the ones that have the most impact. Yes! Those choices do affect your life in obvious ways.
But what about the little choices you make every day?
During a mom midlife crisis, it's essential to find ways to lift her spirits. Encourage her to choose to find beauty in the cloudy days of life, reminding her that even though her husband may not have dried the dishes, he did wash and fold the laundry. This perspective shift can help her focus on the positive aspects of her situation and appreciate the small gestures of support she receives.
Some choices make a greater impact – like choosing what you want more of in your life and then taking action to get it, or choosing how you respond when something goes wrong.
The beautiful thing is that all of your choices – regardless of their impact – are within your control, and it’s the 1 degree shifts that make the most difference in your day to day life.
“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” American Poet Mary Oliver
When it comes to reinventing yourself after the empty nest phase, it's important to recognize that you have more control over the quality of your life than you may think. This month, let's take a closer look at all the ways your choices can impact your mood, as well as your sense of fulfillment, purpose, and joy. Embracing this new chapter and exploring opportunities for personal growth and self-discovery can lead to a renewed sense of purpose and a fulfilling life beyond the empty nest stage.
This week, the first step will be having you choose what you want more of in your life and then taking action to get it.
❓ Do you feel alone and want to feel more connected? Choose to call that friend you haven’t spoken to in far too long to catch up or reach out to your sister to plan a lunch date.
❓ Do you feel worn out and want to start living a healthier lifestyle? Choose to find a dance class near you or schedule some gym time 3 days a week - or whatever time you can afford - and put it on your calendar.
❓ Are you a little bored and want to challenge yourself? Choose to find a language program or a painting class that you can sign up for.
There is so much to choose from! 🤸
We often make the mistake of thinking we need to make sweeping, dramatic changes in our lives to move from a place of discontent to a place of happiness as an empty nester. However, it's important to recognize that finding purpose and fulfillment can come from smaller, meaningful actions and choices. It's about discovering what brings you joy and meaning in this new phase of life. Whether it's volunteering, pursuing a new hobby, or reconnecting with long-lost passions, finding purpose as an empty nester can be achieved through intentional and purposeful steps. By focusing on the little things that bring happiness, we can gradually build a more fulfilling and purpose-driven life.
👀 That’s what we’re going to focus on this month – the little 1 degree shifts you can make that will help change the course of your life over time. Bit by bit. And if you commit to putting a small amount of effort into this over time, I promise that the payoff will be huge! 🌊
It’s the 1° shift that makes the biggest difference over time.
What do you want more of?
We don’t take the opportunity to think about this question often enough. But it’s time! ⌚
This is what we’ll be working on all through the month of July as we talk about intention and the power of choice.
Set aside 10 minutes at a time this week to think only about this question. 🤔
📋 Then make a list – and hang onto it! You’ll be referring to it as we go through the exercises later in the month!
