Do you have an untold story inside of you?

Updated: Nov 22, 2022

Your Magenta Monday Magic.

I love this quote.

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

- Maya Angelou

Do you have an untold story inside of you?

I know I do.

Still.

Even after all these years.

The truth is, my untold story is about writing a book.

I can see myself speaking in front of large audiences of women, sharing my journey in hopes that they may find some wisdom in my words that they can translate into their own lives.

So they can create the joy that I've been able to create in my own life.

But then I hear that voice inside my head, ‘You’re not ready yet.’

And in that moment, I push that thought back into the place in my heart where dreams and imagination live and go on to do whatever I was doing.

Does this sound familiar?

Maybe you want to take up painting or start a business or quit your job.

What is getting in the way of telling your story?

  • The critical voice inside your head telling you, “No, you can’t, You’re not enough, Don’t bother trying.”?

  • Stories that your mom, your grandma, your father/mother, or your teacher may have told you? It may also be our society in general, or the community you grew up in. Sometimes it’s hard to identify exactly where it came from, and that’s ok.

  • Friends or acquaintances who are having a hard time watching you grow?

The point is we all have stories about who we believe we are that limit us and as long as those stories are driving the bus, your true story will remain trapped inside of you.

So, where does my story come from?

I’m not completely sure.

Whether it’s just a compilation of greatest hits stemming from years of lack of self-worth and not-enoughness or maybe fear of failure, I’ve been subscribed to it and it has been in charge.

Until today.

With you as my witness, I am choosing to let go of my old story to make room for something new that I’ve dreamed of doing for a long time.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a book to write!

What about you?

Monday Mindshift

It’s the 1° shift that makes the biggest difference over time.

Take a moment to get curious and ask yourself, “What is an untrue story that I’ve subscribed to?”

What’s your untrue story?

  • You’re not a businesswoman?

  • That you shouldn’t make waves by speaking up?

  • That you aren’t a good enough painter to be considered an artist?

  • That you are too nice?

  • That you are too honest?

Recognize that this ‘story’ despite being untrue has been a part of you and that it has served its purpose somehow - even if you’re not sure how.

Then choose to let it go. With compassion and love.

Now the fun part!

Create a new story about yourself!

That you are a businesswoman.

That you have something to say.

That you absolutely deserve to be visible.

That you are loving and compassionate.

That you care enough to share the truth with people.

Then pay attention because those stories are stubborn and like to hang around awhile. Each time you notice it popping up, intentionally choose your new story.

Be patient with yourself. It’s a process.

I’d love to hear your new story so please tell us all about it in Thriving Mom’s Collective FB Group!

Love Xoxo,
