Your Magenta Monday Magic.

When I was a young woman, the things that mattered to me all came from the outside. The job, the car, the house, the family. I got sucked up into keeping up with the Jones’ in my wealthy Orange County neighborhood, looking outside for the cues that would tell me whether or not I was worthy of fitting in.
And the sad thing? I never was. No matter how hard I tried, there was always someone prettier, thinner, richer, or who had a nicer car. Check out this article.
It was an exhausting pursuit.
One of the things I love most about this stage of life is that I no longer value myself or my worth in my job. Or how much money I have. Or the size of my house. Or where my kids went to college.
I don’t have the time, patience, or interest in that anymore.
While I feel so grateful for all of the things I have in my life, they no longer define me. Instead, I focus on balancing life in a way that prioritizes what truly matters.
When I stopped pursuing all the things I was chasing after for so long, it opened up space for me to get curious about who I am, what lights me up, and the gifts that I am here to share with the world.
I still follow many of the practices I started when I began this journey.
Just this morning, I woke up at my usual time of 5:40 and felt tired. I had gone to bed early and slept pretty well, but my body was moving slowly. Rather than forcing myself to go to the gym, I took my time on my walk and came home to sit in the chair in the corner of my office to write. I wrote about what I was noticing both externally – what was happening outside my window – and internally – how I was feeling in my body.
It didn’t add any more time to my morning routine. Instead, I focused on balancing life by tuning into what felt right at the time versus being married to ticking items off my list.
When you stop focusing on doing the things that don’t add meaning to your life, you have more time for the things that do.
For those of you who are still working full time, who have kids, who are caring for in-laws, partners, or parents, I realize that your time is even more precious. This stage of life is a different kind of busy, and even though they may be fewer and further between, the pulls on our time can be even more demanding.
This is exactly why being more selective about where and how you spend your time is that much more critical so that you can create space for the things that make life more fulfilling and enjoyable.
Doing so will allow you to have more energy to spend on yourself and those who need you.
Monday Mindshift
It’s the 1° shift that makes the biggest difference over time.
Think back over the past few weeks and consider some (or one) of the questions below. And, rather than looking at them as tasks that need to be done, I encourage you to think of them as prompts for reflection,
After all, it’s winter – time to slow down, turn inwards, and reflect.
Have you carved out a little space each day for reflection?
Have you shifted inwards?
Have you slowed down and tried some single-tasking?
Are you any closer to paying attention to your own needs?
Are you thinking any differently about ‘success’ today than you were a month ago?
How is your list coming? Have you gotten clarity on the things that bring you peace? The things that truly matter to you? The things you want more of?
If you already know what you want more of, have you started incorporating those things into your day?
If you find that everything is much the same as it was at the start of the year, you might want to (gently) ask yourself why?
Balancing life isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing what truly aligns with your values and brings you peace.
