3 major benefits of having a routine

Updated: Dec 28, 2022

Your Magenta Monday Magic.

If you know me, you’ll know I love routine!

I know, I know…

Some of you out there are rolling your eyes and thinking… Gawd, how boring!

But if you take a minute to think about all the amazing health benefits that creating a routine gives you, maybe it isn’t as crazy as it sounds?

3 major benefits of having a routine:

  1. Structure. Having a solid routine empowers you to create a life you love.

  2. Self Worth. When you carve out time for yourself during the day and commit to it, you are putting a stake in the ground for YOU and stating that you are worthy of giving yourself the love, time, care, and attention that you’ve given everyone else.

  3. The 3-Legged Stool. Incorporating elements that support your spiritual, mental, and physical health into your daily routine is one way to take the agony out of it.

You may be surprised at how committed I am to my daily routine.

(Okay, for those of you who know me well, maybe not such a shocker).

Do I love exercising?

Oh hell no!

But I love the way I feel when I can see the definition in my shoulders when I wear a sleeveless top, or when my glutes feel sore after a hard workout.

It’s nice to know I have muscle somewhere in there!

I also hate how crappy I feel when I don’t do it.

Truth be told, I’ve been working out for so long that I don’t even think about it anymore.

The same is true with my spiritual routine, which involves meditating and walking my dog Max.

And when I’m out walking I don’t listen to podcasts or music.

I look at the birds darting by on the path ahead of me or the steam rising up from the fence as the sun begins its leisurely ascent on a cold, crisp morning.

There is something very centering and soothing about being present in nature.

That’s the thing with routine.

Once it becomes a habit, you won’t even think about it anymore.

And let’s face it…

When your spiritual, mental, or physical health goes bad,

it can consume your entire life.

Sometimes life hands you a sh*t sandwich or two.

There are sometimes circumstances that are beyond your control.

Heaven forbid your husband is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness or a parent falls down and is suddenly hospitalized!

Even if your health is not being compromised, being in good physical, mental and spiritual shape (and having a sound routine) can help you stay grounded so that you can deal with whatever is going on around you.

Because let’s face it, when Mom goes down, the whole ship goes down with you!

Monday Mindshift

It’s the 1° shift that makes the biggest difference over time.

If you’re not usually one for sticking to a routine, this week I challenge you to open up to the possibility!

The routines you create will be the new foundation for you to have more of what you really want in your life.

Ask yourself these questions:

  1. What is one thing you wish you had more of?

  2. What is one thing you could do to get more of that into your life?

Now, do that one thing every day for the next 5 days and see how you feel.

Hot tip:

  • Prioritize health in little ways by choosing to snack on nuts over Cheetos, getting an extra 30 minutes of sleep, drinking enough water, taking a 10-minute walk, praying, or venting to a trusted friend.

Remember the small things you can do will add up even if it doesn’t feel like it at this exact moment!

Remember, just do the best you can with what you’ve got.

Try not to beat yourself up and instead treat yourself with the love and compassion you deserve.

And don’t forget to ask for support when you need it because if you are feeling it…chances are we are too!

Love Xoxo,
