This is the single most important relationship in your life!

Updated: Nov 29, 2022

Your Magenta Monday Magic.

Last week we talked about how all relationships throughout your life are seasonal and revolve as you continue to evolve.

But the one relationship that tends to get most neglected as moms - and is the most important - is your relationship to SELF!

Why? Because your relationship with yourself impacts EVERYTHING around you.

Think about it - if you have low self-esteem for example, do you think you are going to make good choices when it comes to finding a romantic partner?

Your need to be reaffirmed and validated encourages you to choose someone who fills that need. It creates a dynamic where your entire self-worth is dependent upon someone else.

And that is never a good place to be.

So this week, we are going to talk about why it’s critical to cultivate a strong relationship with yourself.

When you love and honor yourself you take your power back. You start to make choices related to what serves YOUR highest good.

I know for some of you, this concept feels very uncomfortable. We are so used to doing for and taking care of everyone else that we aren’t used to focusing on our own needs.

I hear you. But if you don’t prioritize yourself and set healthy boundaries, everything in your life will be out of alignment and before long you’ll feel like there is something missing.

Boundaries are the distance at which I can love you and me simultaneously’ - Prentis Hemphill

This happened to me.

When I was a young mom, I was so focused on my career and creating my perfect life, I completely forgot to include myself in the process. I had no idea what I was passionate about or what my purpose was outside of my career and family.

I was so busy helping others reach for their dreams, that I didn’t consider that it might cost me mine.

I didn’t realize it then, but I was having an existential crisis. As a result, my relationship with my husband was strained. I was not present or available to my kids the way I should have been. My friends and family couldn’t understand what was happening and were unsure how to support me.

Read more about my story here.

What I learned after several years on my own self-discovery journey is, that if I am not whole with myself then I can not be wholly there for anyone else.

So if you are feeling like things are just a little off - whether it’s with your relationships or your life in general - make the commitment TODAY to take the time to discover who you are beyond being a mom.

It all starts with YOU!

Monday Mindshift

  1. Schedule in quiet time - 30 minutes daily

  2. Journal - what do I like to do? What am I passionate about? Don't edit!

  3. Reevaluate after 30 days, see if there are any themes - painting? Find an art class. Get back to nature. Schedule a walk each morning/evening etc.

As we go into fall, I invite you to think about the leaves changing colors - red, orange, gold- and how much beauty in life can come from the simplest changes.

What’s your favorite thing about fall? If you have any thoughts to share please do! We’d love to share that with you to the Thriving Mom’s discussion HERE.
